Service Description

This course is perfect for beginners who want to learn the basics and intermediates who would like to hone their skills. Over 4 weeks, students will be introduced to a variety of ceramic techniques including making pinch pots, slab-building, coiling, using press moulds, throwing on the wheel, turning and glazing. Please wear comfortable, flat heeled shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting a bit of clay on. Please also bring your own apron. Students can fire and take home any finished pieces they'd like to keep. The first 2 kg of fired work is included in the course fee. After this, we work on a weigh and pay basis of £7 per kilo (e.g. 1 small bowl would cost approximately £1). Firing Your Work Our experienced technicians will fire each piece with care and attention. However, due to the high firing temperatures and the nature of working with clay, there are always risks of breakages. Your teachers will advise along the way how to avoid disappointments in the kiln, but sometimes pieces do still break - it’s all up to the kiln gods! Studio Safety and Guidance The Mudworks teachers will give a briefing of the studio’s setup and safety measures in your first session. The kiln area of the Mudworks is only accessible to teachers and technicians. Unfired work is very fragile, please do not touch or pick up any work that is not your own. Non-Attendance We understand that sometimes life happens and you might not be able to make it to a session. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer make up sessions to accommodate those missed. Your teacher can help to catch you up on any techniques or demonstrations you weren’t present for.
