Service Description
The Mudworks summer course is designed as a condensed introduction to clay from pinch pots to throwing to glazing. Our teachers will take the class through each process step by step - guiding people individually where necessary - so that they come away with a keen grasp on working with clay as well as a handful of lovely glazed pots! The first session is on the wheel. Students will familiarize themselves with clay by making a small pinch pot before being shown a wheel throwing demonstration of how to make a bowl and cylinder. Then participants are invited to get on the wheels where they are coached on centering and throwing their pots. Week two involves trimming/turning the work from the previous session followed by an introduction to coiling. On week three we get architectural with slab building! Students are shown how to prepare and construct slabs to form cylinders and other geometric forms. Week Four is an introduction to glazing. Students will be given their bisque ware and taught how to prepare it for glazing. Following a short demonstration and discussion about glazes, everyone will have a chance to choose their designs and colours followed by assisted glazing. Firing Your Work – What’s Included?
